Bean Brew Airlines

The Map

big.jpg

This beer was purchased by 20 brave customers at IDEO's 2019 Wunderfaire. Upon completing their Bean Brew, customers were asked to answer three simple questions:

1 - Where are you from?
2 - Where are you going?
3 - Where did you drink your Bean Brew?

Survey results were visualized as part of a route map for Bean Brew Airlines, with the three locations provided by each drinker translated into a unique route flown by the airline. Each Bean Brew airplane includes a Jersey Class in front, available only to passengers with a quality link to New Jersey. Other passengers are assigned seats in the plane based upon their proximity in life (so far) to New Jersey.

My Process

Like most Bean Brew projects, this map started with analog survey data from 20 completed Bean Brew surveys. Survey results were inputed into Google maps, then downloaded into QGIS (open source mapping software) and exported into Illustrator. I then designed the map as a three-color print suitable for screen printing. The completed files were sent along to Austin where my friend Rand is in the process of printing 50 copies of the map. Once the prints arrive back in SF, I'll be mailing them along to the 20 brave members of the Bean Brew No. 10 cohort.
